Geico Cavemen on Motorcycles

Once again, good music and hilariously "hurt" cavemen.

Finally, New Barrel Biz Cards

Back in 2006, we decided to get fancy and have our business cards printed at Aldine, a printing press in TriBeCa that caters mostly to law firms and big corporations. We used 130 lbs Mohawk Superfine Ultra-white stock (mad nice) and even got a blind emboss of our name and logo. The back of the card was colored in sexy dark blue (Pantone 289) and our info was written on the front in a fine Cool Gray 9. We dropped a lot of dollars - about $400 per set of cards - to feel American Psycho-good.

This is what the old cards look like:

The sucky thing was that we moved shortly after we got the cards. We hadn't anticipated this and were stuck with the old address on our cards. Too bad we each had 900 cards left. For the past year and a half, we've been giving out our cards with the old address (Wook put a sticker with the new info over his and I put a little sticker on the back). Not the cleanest solution, but it got the job done for the time being.

About a month ago, we came across The Mandate Press, a letterpress shop in Utah. They offered a special: a set of letterpressed cards, black on white only, for $95. The price sounded pretty good to us and we love working with constraints, so we decided to design something quick and place an order. We also decided to make things interesting and designed inverted versions of the card. I got black letters on white while Wook got black pressing down to show white letters. We also went with a big BARREL because lots of old people couldn't see the blind emboss on our old cards.

And today, we got them. Initial thoughts - they're alright. Take a look:

We were hoping for a darker ink instead of the half-toned sorta faded black we got. Wook's card almost looks like it's a washed out gray - sorta like how my black socks look after 50 washes. Maybe we could've been more creative with the designs. Oh well. One thing's for sure - even if we move, we won't have to worry about addresses since they're completely gone now. It would suck though if we couldn't keep our office phone number.

Making of a New Yorker Cover

We always get the New Yorker a day late in the mail. Got ours today and thought it was a nice and simple cover for the Politics issue. Then we saw some links about the making of the cover (check out the video too) and thought it was cool. Didn't realize the illustrator had to come up with so many different concepts. The Klansman in the voting booth is pretty menacing.
