Steamboat Foundation’s Special Grants Program is designed to support individuals and organizations that create unique programs to help impoverished communities around the globe.
We recently expanded the Steamboat Foundation's Special Grants Program section on its website with updated information on all the grantees. Each grantee page has detailed tabs that include Overview, Needs Addressed, Biography of the Grantee leader, and the Program's Accomplishments. We also created graphics for charts and timelines to help better visualize the information. Back in 2007, when we first started working with the Steamboat Foundation, Right to Play was its first and only grantee. We're very happy to see that the program has added four quality grantees to the program and continues to grow.

Picked up these two baby bottles for the office. They're from Tuthilltown Spirits, New York's first whiskey distillery since Prohibition. They're a bit pricey at $42 for a 375ml bottle, but we're very excited to try them out.
We're very pleased to announce the launch of Barrel Stock Photos, a collection of 18 high-quality photos of New York City taken and meticulously post-processed by our summer intern Kevin Hong. Kevin spent several days walking around the city to capture these sights with his Canon Rebel XS and spent countless hours touching up each photo. These images are 100% free for you to take and use in any way, no need to credit. They also come in a variety of sizes for your convenience.

Long gone are the good old days when we could hold drinking parties at our office. A few months ago, we relocated to a shared office environment in Flatiron and were deprived of a venue for holiday parties and political rallies. But we're a determined bunch and will work hard for a way to gather friends in a drink-friendly environment. Our first attempt is a Happy Hour session at Rogue, a bar close to our office. We hope you'll join us. Details are below:
Barrel Happy Hour
Tues, September 15
6PM-8PM
Rogue
6th Ave. b/w 25th and 26th Sts.
$4 house mixed drinks
Snacks are on us!
We'll be holding a raffle to give away two
Barrel Cardigans (one male, one female), so we hope that will be an added incentive!
Nothing lifts up our spirits on a rainy day than a pleasant surprise. Today, the surprise came in the form of a visit from one of our favorite clients, Sunday Brunch's Judy Kou, who came bearing the gift of a beautiful bottle of single malt whiskey. Awesome.
And for you ladies out there, be sure to catch a super sale on summer dresses at Sunday Brunch as well as the new fall collection.

The weather treated us perfectly this weekend as we traveled around Baltimore with our intern, Kevin, to shoot some of Astrum Solar's latest installations. It was exciting to meet and hear the stories of homeowners whose lives have been changed by solar. (seriously, they do enjoy sitting in their backyards and watching their electric meters run backwards.) We also had a chance to stop by the Astrum Solar HQ where we finally saw the result of our collateral design. Some things we learned from this experience:
- Don't forget your equipment at peoples' homes, especially when your destinations can be up to 45 min apart!
- A wide lens is a life-saver when space is tight (we rented a 10-22mm lens from Adorama)
- A noon appointment is possibly too early when driving down from NYC (too many close calls with the 5-O on NJ Turnpike).
- Mosquitos are harsh in MD (6 bites within the first 5 min of setting foot in the grass). We should have DEET-ed up before going out.
Anyways, look out for the new case studies in the upcoming weeks: http://www.astrumsolar.com/different/casestudies
We were very pleased to begin the week with the arrival of our much anticipated Barrel cardigans. We came up with the idea a couple months back as we shivered in our overly air-conditioned office (we can't control it) and acted quickly when we found cashmere J.Crew cardigans on sale. We found a company in PA to embroider our logo, and after examining a couple samples, finally gave the green light. We're very pleased at how these turned out and love the loud and obnoxious bigness of the logo on our chest.
In a recent meeting with our client & favorite sociologist Sudhir Venkatesh, we got hooked up with the Korean version of his book Gang Leader for a Day. Our Korean reading level is pretty poor so we can't offer any intelligent translation comparisons, but we thought that the Korean cover had some funny/weird elements: What's that golden Pooh-bear lock supposed to be? And what's with the genie lamp, especially for a book about gangs and life in the Chicago housing projects?
By the way, we've been making some updates for Sudhir on his site, including a narrative feature film and a radio documentary:

We're pleased to announce the launch of
Renal-Path, a great resource for information on renal pathology fellowships. Started up by
Nephropath, the site also provides background information on the history and current practices of renal biopsies. The site was built on the
Expression Engine.
